Playdough

One thing all homes with children need is homemade playdough. The store kind is filled with chemicals, is expensive and doesn’t last! We’ve had this kind last well over 6 months. It is so fun for children to measure and help make it, it takes only 15 minutes from start to finish, I cant rave enough!  Go make some today!!!

Playdough
2 cups flour
3/4 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups water (add in coloring)
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
Mix ingredients in a large pot
Cook stirring continuously on medium heat until mixture is lumpy and play dough consistency.
(don’t burn it, but it will pull together into a ball)
Turn the dough onto wax paper and let cool, then knead thoroughly and store in an airtight container!

You can also add 1 tablespoon of essential oil if you like, or even vanilla or peppermint extract. I also had a friend use a packet of KoolAid as the coloring/scent and she said it was great!
I have found that toothpicks, popsicle sticks, a rolling pin and a plastic knife will beat out expensive toys any day!

This also makes a WONDERFUL homemade birthday or CHRISTmas gift for the children in your life.

  1. Homemade playdough makes a wonderful gift! I need to make some with my kids again!

You have a very pretty blog. I was reading your about me and thought it was cool that you have a Peter, Andrew and Abigail. My oldest brother is Peter and then the next child would have been named Andrew had she been a boy (but was named Anna as she wasn't a boy!) and then I am next and I am Abbigail. My parents had 3 more after me- Martha, Luke and Keren. I just thought it was neat to see somebody else liking the same names as my parents.

Thanks for linking up to Have a Handmade Christmas on my blog!

  3. Barb, it makes 2 of the plastic containers, or 2 gifts worth.
