Apple butter
4 cups apple cider
4 lbs peeled and cored apples, cut into pieces
¼ cup brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
Bring the cider to a boil. Add apples and cook uncovered on low heat until tender and mushy. Add sugar, spices and salt, then puree. Cook on low heat until it thickens, ladle into prepared jars and seal. Boil jars for 30 minutes.
This is a great recipe. I am a traditional Southern cook in that I couldn't live without my slow cooker. I put up two bushels of apples this year into sauce and butter, and I did it all in the crock pot. 18 hours on low for butter and it was omg good!
