Purity- A Godly Woman's Adornment
This weekend I was able to read a wonderful book by Lydia Brownback, called Purity, that I picked up from the library. I was so blessed by the Biblical truth this little book contained, and I highly recommend it to all women. It is a little devotional that packs the meat of God's Word, and practical application on each short page.
"A pure heart is an undivided heart. We can not want God AND the comforts and pleasures the world has to offer. (Matt 5:8)"
"If we believe there is anything essential for our well being besides God, we are double minded." (James 4:8)
"Love for God is the essence of purity. We cab be obedient, avoiding drunkenness, sexual immorality etc-obeying rules without any love for Him. Our actions alone do not make us pure. It is about loving Him so much that purity overflows into our actions. "
"Cleaning up is often the easiest thing to offer God because it costs us so little in comparison to what He really wants- our selves. It is easier to shut out sinful fantasies than to ask God to conform us to Christ at any cost. It's much easier to break a questionable habit than to embrace with joy and unchangeable difficulty."
"Outward purity will never please God if that purity isn't motivated by love for Him. If you have been playing by the rules, yet God seems far from you, stop and consider the relationship. Are you offering Him your whole heart, or just clean hands?"
"We may think we trust God, but our efforts to anxiously control the details of our lives show us that we really don't. We may feel love for our husband, but daily outbursts of irritation and anger reveal something else. We may say we are not greedy for money or possessions but our credit card debt shows otherwise. Actions speak louder than words or feelings and reveal what we really believe."
"Biblical quietness is trusting God and resting in the circumstances in which He has called us to live. There is no need for anxious fretting when we trust that God is in control."
"Submitting is an act of obedience, even when the path looks dark. But we can trust God with the consequences of our obedience, because it is really God we are submitting to." (1 Peter 3:4)
"Feminine quietness means we do not manipulate, nag or raise our voice to get our way." (1 Peter 3:4)
"Everything we do reveals either a Christ centered heart or a self oriented heart. How we handle stressful seasons and how we relate to our husband model one or the other to our children. "
"Sometimes enjoying a deeper relationship with God entails giving up legitimate comforts, and our willingness to do so-or not is the test of a pure heart."
