Biblical antidote to anxiety

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!  Let your reasonableness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:4-7

If we give free rein to worrisome thoughts, anxiety is going to become a habit in which we find ourselves enslaved. Since God's will for us is joy, we can trust it is His will for us to be free from anxiety.

The Biblical antidote to anxiety is prayer. "Rejoice always", which we can do because "the Lord is at hand". He is present everywhere and in everything. Paul writes that our reasonableness should be evident to others. He is saying that trusting God is reasonable because God is totally in charge, all loving, and all good. Doubt and anxiety are, therefore, unreasonable.

Although we may feel that refraining from anxiety is impossible sometimes, refraining is indeed possible since the Bible never tells us to do something God has not equipped us to do. The equipping is presented here as prayer, taking our requests straight to God rather than fretting over them...We are to tell God our concerns, hopes, desires and needs and then thank Him that He will provide the best possible way. This is why we have great reason to trust and no reason for anxiety... He wants us to trust He is in charge, even when the way looks dark and we cannot see the evidences of His goodness.

God is good each and every moment. Worry, anxiety and stress rob us of joy, but trusting God produces it.
