not a fan. quotes
I posted yesterday about how much I was encouraged and convicted by not a fan., and I want to share some of what stood out to me from the movie.
"To call yourself a Christian is more than just an intellectual acceptance of who He is, it is following Him with your whole heart.....A decision to follow Him is a decision to surrender everything to Him, it is only then that we find life....Fans admire, Followers are devoted."
"It's not just about knowing, it is about DOING. It's not enough to know the will of the Father, it is about living it."
"In the gospels, Jesus says 'believe in Me' 5 times, He says 'follow Me' 20 times."
"We are by nature comfort seekers and most of us are trying to make our lives as comfortable as possible".
" A man asked my friend 'if you were to die tonight, do you know where you'd go?' They kept talking and he accepted Jesus as his Savior then. But then my friend said 'My only problem is I didn't die that night'. He went on to live the next decade of his life thinking everything was fine because he had accepted Jesus, not understanding that he was supposed to FOLLOW Jesus. He said 'I wish that man would have told me that death starts now'. ....We must die to ourselves, our plans, our pleasures, goals, sins bitterness and entitlements."
At the end of the movie Kyle Idleman touched on something near and dear to my heart. He says "What if many people are traveling through life with their cruise control on. They have their Christian music on, they even have the Christian fish on their bumper. They THINK they are on the narrow road, but the are really following the broad road that leads to destruction. I believe that nothing can separate me from the love of Christ. I believe in Him who is able to keep me from falling. But I also believe in what the Bible teaches, that many think they are saved, and one day will find out differently. "
Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to Me and does not love Me more than his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.... So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:33
"When I first heard the story in Matthew 8(verse 18-22), I thought Jesus was being harsh, but they I realized the man was saying 'when my parents die, and I get my inheritance and my future is secure, THEN I will follow you. I want to follow you, but not yet, now is not the best time. "
"When God calls Elisha( 1 Kings 9:19), he is plowing his field with 12 yoke of oxen, which shows he was well off. When God called him, he walked away from his comfortable and safe life. In fact, he burns his farm equipment and cooks all his oxen, to show there is no turning back, he is all in, following God. What is holding you back? What is competing with Christ for your allegiance? Maybe you need to go to your backyard and start a little fire."
