Dave Ramsey

I just received The Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey yesterday, and have finished it already! (Even though I have a stack of other books to finish and blog right here on my desk!) It was  a short book but tons of financial wisdom was packed in! I highly recommend it!
I’ve heard of Dave Ramsey for a few years now, and read a lot of his stuff online. I’ve loved everything I have read and heard, but have never actually gotten one of his books because my husband’s philosophy on money is so different than mine. Now that I have read one of his books, I am definitely on board with his ideas!
This book covers The Basics, Debt Credit& Bankruptcy, Relationships & Money,Budgeting, Saving & Investing, College &Student Loans, Stewardship, Insurance, Retirement & Estate Planning, Automobiles and Real Estate & Mortgages.
So as I usually do, here are some of my favorite quotes from the book, I’ll let them speak for themselves!
~We live among a bunch of people who are deeply in debt and have no money because their emotions were tricked. Just like drug addicts, people have been conned into believing that happiness will come with the next purchase.
~STUFF does not equal CONTENTMENT
~The principle (n paying off debt) is to stop everything except minimum payments, and focus on paying one thing at a time. Use the debt snowball. You attack the smallest debt first, still maintaining minimum payments on everything else. Do what is necessary to focus your attention. Keep stepping up to the next largest bill.
~You need to be willing to work to fix the situations that you created with your own irresponsibility . If you are not willing, then you cannot be helped. We all make mistakes, but the question is whether you are willing to take responsibility for youe mistakes!
~Getting out of debt takes getting mad. It takes willingness to live off rice and beans for a while. It means getting a second or third job and selling things. If you really want to get out of debt, this is what you will do.
~If you don’t save, you will always be in debt.  You will always be stressed about money. You will always be broke. We DO make enough money to save; we just aren’t willing to quit spoiling ourselves with our little projects and pleasures to have enough left to save. It just has to be a big enough priority to you.
~The advertisers and marketing community are affecting our emotions every day and taking every dollar we have by making us see WANTS as NEEDS.
~Most people have the best intentions, yet we often fail to write down specific goals we desire to reach financially.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their Book Sneeze book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
